About The Children

The Kwa Watoto children whether orphaned, from single or both parent homes all have one thing in common, they are extremely poor.

The target group for the school is the age groups age 3 - 18 in primary and 14 -22 in high school. Our current population as of the beginning of 2006 is 700 children.

Academic Performance
At Kwa Watoto we strive to instill virtues in our children that will make them whole; strong in character and focused academically.

Those who graduate from standard eight (elementary level) go into our secondary level.

In the year 2003, the school managed a mean grade of 260/500 in the KCPE results.

Year 2003 – Our first grade eight class had a mean score of 260/500. The first boy is in form three at our high school and competing very well with others who join in form one last term, he was position 2/260 with 896/1000.

Our best performer in year 2004 K.C.P.E. got 405/500 and we enrolled him in Musingu Boys. By the end of his first secondary year in Musingu, he held the 9 th position out of 264 students an overall of 899/1100. This is a true testament that all a child needs is a chance to prove himself. Our children continually impress us, with their academic zeal and thirst for life amidst their impoverished backgrounds.

The orphans under our care are housed in two houses affectionately known as Warm Hearts house and Lambert House, many of them were orphaned due to the HIV/AIDS scourge.

High School Division
In January 2006, we established a boy's house thanks to Rita Suetterlin. Rita who had visited and talked to boys in school, decided to fund a boy's house which has 12 boys now.

Progress at Kwa Watoto
By the end of the year 2005, we still had semi permanent classrooms. Fortunately after a visit by the CEO of Standard Chartered bank together with
his team, they managed to fund and erect three permanent classrooms. These classrooms were built over the December holidays and were a welcome surprise to the children as they resumed school at the beginning of the school year.
