Kwa watoto centre and school/ st. mathew high school
This centre was started in 1999 with an express aim of catering for the orphans and destitutes in the slums of Soweto Nairobi. The centre started with a population of 150 pupils and due to the need of education, food and shelter; the population is now over 900 children right from baby class, nursery, pre- school to Class eight and we have 500 students in the secondary division ( St. Mathew high school) the kids ages range from 3 to 20 years. With all the societal diversity and challenges, our staff and students peacefully co-exist and respect one another without prejudice or discrimination based on gender, tribe, race, age or social economic status.
we have two campuses of our high school one stream of form one to four is in Soweto kwa watoto centre while the other campus is at the junction of kangundo road and Kayole Spine road , this is the HQ of our Secondary division this has the second and third stream of form one to four and also this is the registered centre of KCSE exams .
in 2010 KCSE results our first student Daniel Musili cores straight Ain all subjects and was ranked first in Embakasi district, Njiru , Kayole and Equity bank gave him a job as he waits to Join Nairobi University to pursue engineering degree.
we would like to thank our supporters who have made things possible , just to mention but a few ,
1-Warm hearts foundation for funding many things among others water well and plumbing tanks to the whole school and houses costing about 4 million, building Warm Hearts house , buying us more land for expansionand for having supported the kids in the house who are now in Universities two in their third year doing medicine, two in university doing mass communication , one who finished Aeronotical engineering and those still in our primary and secondary system,
2- Centorfarfalle Onlus - Italy
This non profit founded in 2004 to support Kwa watoto centre and St. Mathew , raised funds to build new St. athew along Kangundo rd , building of Magda house in Kwa watoto centre , sponsoring over 90 kids in primary and secondary and those in colleges and universities now , when during the post election Violence of 2008 the new school was burned we have been rebuilding slowly by slowly we would like to thank Centorfarfalle for taking the leading role in reconstruction having done one classroom in 2009 and two classrooms 2011 which have been concreted from december to be ready by march this year 2012.
3- Harambee Kwa watoto eV - Germany
a non profit organisation founded in 2003 to help solely Kwa watoto and St. Mathew schools has now individual child sponsorships of 240 in primary and 60 in high school paying of school fees to the kids and buying stationery , uniform ,, helping with the lab in Soweto and Text books in soweto library,etc.
4- Friends of Kwa watoto - USA
this is a non profit in Michigan USA which was formed in 2011 to help Kwa watoto cenrre and Lambert house in particular since lambert house had no official sponsor.
5- UUNET K LTD ( NOW MTN BUSINESS)
this company has partners with us since 2003 proving annual financial assistance and also they are the reason we are online hosting our website and other donations every year.
